The plan to make a king - Two steps behind.
Much has been made of Prince Philip's supposed links to Hitler and in this Secret History film, his nephew Prince Rainer von Hessen talks about the private meeting his mother, Philip's sister, had with the Nazi leader. With his German roots and reputation for rudeness, Philip – reportedly named 'the Hun' by the Queen Mother – was considered a less-than-ideal suitor for Elizabeth.
It seems he was determined to wed her, though, and it is suggested that he and his uncle, Lord Mountbatten, began to plan for a wedding when Elizabeth was just 13. But he had a fight on his hands – and in an exclusive interview, Mountbatten's daughters Pamela and Patricia explain how Churchill ensured Philip had no real power.
